McNairy county is a rural community located along the southern border of Tennessee.  McNairy County's economy is primarily based on agriculture and manufacturing. The major agricultural crops are cotton, soybeans, corn, milo and livestock, and the county also has a considerable amount of hardwood.

His story has directly inspired several books, movies and two movie remakes and at least one TV series. The Buford Pusser Museum has been established at the house where he was living at the time of his death in 1974. A Buford Pusser Festival is held each May in his hometown of Adamsville, Tennessee.
